Fantastic Intro to DSLR
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
The Nikon D60 has proven to me to be a fantastic beginner’s DSLR, while it can hardly be labeled a beginner’s camera since it is more than capable of running with the higher models. It does, however, lack some of the features that give the more expensive brands their appeal, and high price tag.

For what you get with this model; high quality photographs, durability, small and lightweight body; the price is unbeatable. The difference in quality from the D60 and the higher level DSLRs can only be seen if you have already mastered the techniques of digital photography, and are looking for the next step. I would not recommend a newcomer to DSLR photography puchasing anything much higher than the D60 to start with, otherwise you may be wasting money that could be put towards a more powerful lens.

The D60 has proven it’s durability to me in the field, as I have dropped it on the ground and worst of all, fell into a stream with it around my neck in Yosemite National Park. I dried it off and it was like new. Excellent quality.

If you would like to see what kind of photographs I have been able to shoot with my D60, check out my photostream on Flickr. Just look for Nick Chill!

Enjoy!

The best for the price.

What more can you ask for? A Nikon Digital SLR, 2 extremely high quality VR lenses, which provide 18 to 200mm total combined, for less than $1,000.

The D60 has all the capabilities of some of the much higher priced bodies, great software, that allows a wide range of programmable shooting and it’s fast operating. It would have been better with a 3″ screen, but, the one provided is bright and sharp. The lenses are beautiful, sharp, contrasty, quick focusing. Even though I generally use a polarizer for scenics, I’ve found, while testing the lenses, the 18-55mm, in particular, provides enough saturation, most of the time, w/o the filter. This is typical Nikon “prosumer” equipment which provides the best quality/value for the money spent, for those of us who can not or do not want to spend “pro” dollars for our equipment. One last note, you must buy a lens hood for the 18-55mm lens. It is not provided, as usual. The 55-200mm comes with one, even though it may not be prominently noted in any specs you read. All around, this could not have been a better package buy.

I love it!!

I got this camera for Christmas, and it hasn’t left my side since then. It’s my first DSLR, and I absolutely love it.

I’m still learning how to use it, but it’s been great so far.

The Nikon D60: Digital has finally won me over
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
For years now, I have held onto my Nikon film SLRs for any “serious” photography. My SLR kit was heavy – the motor drive alone held 6 AA batteries — and bulky, but it was the only gear I trusted for demanding photographic tasks.

Oh, I had my digitals as well. For a couple years I used my 6 Megapixel Fujicolor zoom camera for midrange shooting, and caught some great shots. But having to fight my way around the automation was a pain. When I finally lost a shot I really wanted because I couldn’t outsmart the autofocus, I began looking at DSLRs.

I recently bought the D60 kit with both the 18-55 and 55-200 VR zoom lenses, and after a couple of weeks of very successful shooting, I finally mothballed my old Nikon film SLRs.

The D60 is lightweight compared to my old SLRs, but in every other respect it is no lightweight! I have full control over every aspect of exposure when I need it, and fast full-auto operation when I don’t. The autofocus is fast and precise for most situations, but I can override it in an instant when I need to exercise direct control. The same with aperture, shutter speed, flash compensation, exposure compensation, and ISO.

I recommend the D60 for anyone who is still holding onto their film SLRs, waiting for digital to fulfill its promise to make film SLRs obsolete.

Excellent Product

It is an excellent trade of by the price you pay because you get very good quality pictures, good performance of the camera under poor light conditions (I had a coolpix 5700 before), user friendly menus to make adjustments and the auto mode lets “anybody” to use the camera although it is a professional one.

Traded it for a D90 because I liked the 60 so much I wanted to have the movie feature also so I got the 90
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Great clear pictures but I really wanted the D 90 and the movie features. That was a big differance along with the sensor area of 11 points insted of just 3. I really like the 90..

Beautiful Camara
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This camera was my entry into Digital SLR cameras and now having it for a month i can honestly say if i had the money i would have gone for the d90 for the ability to shoot video in full HD with a nikkor lenses but that’s just not what i needed for a good entry level camera, but the d60 takes beautiful pictures, and has every option you could ask for.

Best gift I ever got
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Total novice mom is taking professional quality pictures of child.

AMAZINGLY EASY…auto settings are great…can’t wait til I really dig in and learn about all the fancy stuff and manual settings. I am a point and clicker….this is AMAZING.

Great for beginners and I am sure that well experienced photogs would enjoy. Took this to Disneyland and their professional photogs that take your picture throughout the park said that was the kind of camera she was going to buy after having tried mine.

DAMN>>>it feels good in your hand.

Best Entry Level DSLR
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This is the best entry level DSLR for anyone going from a P&S to an SLR camera. The automatic settings are wonderful, and while not always precise, are a good introduction to the exposure triangle for people who have no formal photography training. This camera provides a lot of options for customizing the automatic modes as well as using a fully manual mode (manual exposure) that will allow the photographer to take charge of the entire photographic experience. The self-cleaning system is a great way to keep images sharp and avoid nasty dust spots on images.

The combination of the two lenses is great. Too few kits exist that include multiple lenses. These lenses are some of Nikon’s best for this level of product (consumer SLR). The vibration reduction allows the photographer to shoot more frequently off of a tripod. My only complaint with the lenses is the that they have difficulty focusing close and need assistance for close focus, in the form of a close-up filter.

Great product for any new photographer, not great for a professional, but I have no regrets about it.

Nikon D60 Kit with 2 lenses
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This is a fantastic camera and lens combination. My 16 year-old son has mastered it quickly and taken some professional quality photos both indoors & outdoors. The operation of the camera, lenses & menus are intuitive and easily learned. The Vibration Reduction feature permitted great, sharp photos in low light at a concert and also of some bald eagles flying at a good distance from the camera. The 10 megapixel size permitted zooming & cropping and still getting great quality pictures. It feels comfortable in our hands – better than any other DSLR’s we tried. A gem!

Great Camera; no auto-bracketing
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Purhcased as my entry into the dSLR market. I was able to track down a price of under $500 locally for both the 55-200 & 18-55 lenses, and am very happy. Still learning the ins, outs, etc. but from what I can see from the pictures, great entry camera and would highly recommend for a first time purchaser/entry into the dLSR market.

As a downside it should be noted that the d60 does NOT have auto-bracketing, something to keep in mind…

Nikon D60 is a great buy!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This is my first attempt to enter the world of digital photography using a D-SLR and so I wanted to purchase a camera with a reliable name brand and recognition, ease of use, value priced, and one that would have a great amount of long-term flexibility – i.e. lots of lens offerings, accessory availability, etc. I found all of these things AND MORE in the Nikon D60. I know several folks who shoot professional photography and use Nikon products, only. Even for a more advanced user, the D60 is sure to not disappoint. It takes great photos even on the automatic settings, is a great size that fits easily into your hand, and has many nice and unique in-camera features (such as digital retouch and the ability to edit photos on the fly). The included kit lenses are pretty decent, especially now that they come with the “VR” technology…this seems to help quite a bit in reducing blur caused by camera shake at low shutter speeds.

All in all, I am very impressed with the camera (and Nikon overall) and am excited to learn more about it…and more about the world of digital photography!

Great starter DSLR
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
The D60 with a 18-55 VR and 55-200 VR lens combination is a real winner. It covers most of the focal lengths a beginning photographer needs. Throw in a 50mm prime or a 35mm prime and you’re pretty much set for a few years.

The construction quality, while not as good as higher end models, is still pretty great. Compared to the equivalent Canon models, the D60′s grip is more comfortable and the plastic has a better feel. My D60 survived a pretty nasty fall (10 ft onto some rocks) and is still good as new.

There really are only 2 downsides to the D60:

(1) Only 3 autofocus points

(2) No in-body autofocus (the D90 does have one, if you want it)

– This shouldn’t be too much of a problem if you don’t already own a bunch of lenses. If you do, then get the D90.

– Also, many of the inexpensive primes won’t autofocus on your D60. Get the new 35mm AFS or the 50mm AFS

Of course, now that the D3000 is out (for about the same price), I would get that. However, if you find the D60 at a good discounted price, it still is a great beginning DSLR.

Despues de una D40, Una D60
Rating:4 out of 5 stars

I got this camera as a gift for my wife before her trip to Scotland. We have other digital cameras including a lesser model Nikon. We also have a Nikon SLR film camera. This is by far the best quality and user freindly camera we have ever had. The results are stunning. Excellent picture with every shot.

Great deal, great kit, camera doesn’t work
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
The kit really does have everything you need and it is a great deal! However my new Nikon D60 does not work. I haven’t been able to take any pictures, because the shutter doesn’t release and I get an error message saying that I need to press the button again to release. Really disappointing. So just be aware this can happen.

Definitely the best electronic device i own. I have only had it the summer and have take between 5,000 and 10,000 pictures. It is lightweight and very user friendly. If you are a first time D-SLR user, I would recommend this camera because it is very easy to pick up and shoot great pictures. It is also great for an experienced photographer.

Overall, AWESOME!

Great camera to jump from film or P&S to DSLR
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I’ve had the photograpy bug for a little over 40 years. I started out with a Nikkormat FT in high school. 15 years later I bought a Nikon FM. I still own both and they still work just fine. I’ve owned several point and shot cameras along the way also but have wanted to make the jump to a DSLR for quite some time. I had a wish list for quite a while that originally had the D40 but updated it to the D60 when it came out. My loving spouse took the list, did some research of her own and surprised me with a D60 kit containing the 18-55 & 55-200 VR DX zooms for my birthday in August. What a keeper I married :)

I have to say that I am absolutely happy and amazed with this great little digital beauty. It works great with my older Nikkor lenses and the 2 DX VR lenses are wonderful too.

The various “auto” modes work great when you want to let the camera do some, most or all of the work, OR need a quick shot and don’t have the time to do more than compose. The manual mode allows complete control for those with the experience or beginners who want to learn by experimentation.

The small size might be a problem for a large-handed individual, but it fits my medium sized paws to a T. The 10.2 megapixels, large ISO range, 3 metering methods, multiple shooting modes and huge range of Nikon accessories and Nikkor lenses make this a great platform for the beginning dslr user as well as the more experienced. And the price at Amazon with both DX VR lenses is a great deal.

One more thing. The manual from Nikon is thorough, but not well organized or illustrated. Because of that, I recommend that you also buy the “Nikon D60 (Focal Digital Camera Guides)” by Corey Hilz. It’s far better organized and illustrated, has a great quick start section that will get you up and photographing in just a few minutes and has great tips and techniques from Corey, who is a great photo pro and shows how to use all of the great features this camera has. Well worth the current $13.57 price tag on Amazon and can be found here:

Easy to learn
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I received the camera Nikon D60 a day before my Bright angel hike to the Grand canyon. I have previously own a SLR however this is my first Digital SLR. Though I was still experimenting during my tedious hike, i was able to take beautiful pictures. I love the quality of the pictures, the features of the camera enable me to retouch my photo, especially while I am experimenting my camera.

There is only one thing that I wasn’t satisfied with the sale deal. The battery charger came in the voltage of 110V, that means that I may not be able to use when I am travelling to some places in Asia. I thought that all cameras charger should come with dual voltages. That means the camera can be use world wide I was not able to source the dual voltage charger here, can anyone help me with that.
