Nikon’s smarter approach to digital imaging technology. From image capture to processing, Nikon’s comprehensive EXPEED digital imaging concept encompasses the entire picture-taking operation. EXPEED is much more than a processing engine; it is a revolution in digital photography.

4 way VR Image Stabilization minimizes the effects of camera shake for sharper results

  • Nikon’s Optical VR image stabilization compensates for the effects of camera shake by moving the image sensor.
  • Motion Detection automatically detects a moving subject and adjusts shutter speed and the ISO setting to compensate for camera shake and subject movement.
  • High ISO 6400 capability helps give you sharper results when shooting in low light or capturing fast-moving subjects.
  • Nikon’s original Best Shot Selector automatically takes up to 10 shots while the shutter is pressed and saves the sharpest image.

When I ordered this camera, it was for a trip and that evening, I found out that we were leaving that weekend. Now what, go buy one at the store or use my old one(ugh!). The next day to my surprise, it was brought to my door…This camera is the best yet for small digital cameras. Pictures were taken while riding down the highway, driving the Harley and they were beautiful. No more waiting, what seems like an eternity, to click the next shot!!! The very best I have had and it came in purple to boot!! Nikon Coolpix S630 12MP Digital Camera with 7x Optical Vibration Reduction (VR) Zoom and 2.7 inch LCD (Royal Purple)

The Nikon S630 is for my wife and she likes a camera that is easy to use and takes good pictures and she can carry it in her purse. This camera fits nicely and she can use it anywhere.

Great point and shoot camera!

I have now had this camera for several months and it is a great camera. The zoom is incredible (especially compared to the camera I previously had), and the numerous features are easy to use. There are many features that I haven’t even used yet, but over July 4th I was able to use the “fireworks” feature and the camera took the best fireworks photos automatically. Incredible! The digital zoom is a little tricky for me to get but once it kicks in it is really close-up. It does get a little grainy at that point though, but it is still very close. The downloading of the pictures is very easy as well. Absolutely love the color and love the camera!

I only work with Nikon cameras. I have various sizes but saw this one and wanted to give it a try. I love it for the most part. I wanted something that I could put in my pocket and go. The quality of the photos is very good and if you take the time to learn all of the functions you can really get this little camera to perform. The only thing that I wish it had was an eye piece to look through. I don’t like looking through the digital display, especially in bright sunlight. You can’t seen what you are shooting. Other than that is it a dream.

Not only is this camera beautiful and easy to carry around, but the picture quality is outstanding. I wanted to shell out the extra bucks to get a 7x optical zoom instead of the 3x and I am so happy that I did. This is a great camera and such a cute color! :)

not reliable

I purchased this camera a year ago. I really liked it until the lens stopped working. I called Nikon and my extended warranty expired less than a month ago. They were not able to help. They said they could repair it for $100 plus shipping to and from. Since I purchased it on sale for $150 I didn’t think that the $100 repair was worth it. So now I have a camera I can’t use at all. I am planning on giving it to my toddler as a toy because that’s all it’s good for now! I would expect a product from Nikon to last more than a year. Very disappointed and I don’t think I will choose Nikon again.

You can do better for the money.

For me, the real selling points of this camera were: its size, its outstanding zoom range, and the fact that it is a Nikon. The camera is an ideal size, and conforms well to the hands when shooting. The user interface is not entirely intuitive, but if you spend a little time with the camera, it is not very difficult to figure out. The zoom range is fantastic. But the motor used to control the zoom won’t let you continuously zoom in and out; it is set to allow you to only zoom to a certain number of discrete positions. I found this to be really annoying–frequently, I wanted to zoom in or out just a tiny bit, but the darn thing would jump to its next zoom zone, which would be way off-the-mark.

If you are looking for a point-and-shoot camera that works very well in fully auto mode, then this is NOT the camera for you. Virtually all of the fully-automatic shots I took with this camera, particularly indoors, came out poorly exposed–typically out-of-focus, blurred, with inaccurate color rendering, or with noticeable digital noise. I found that if I took the time to go to the menu and select the proper shooting mode (for example, “Indoor Portrait,” “Still Life,” etc) to conform to the shooting environment at the time, the results were much better, though still frequently flawed. If you are buying a point-and-shoot camera in order to actually point-and-shoot, I would argue that users generally don’t expect to have to reset modes for every situation in order to get a decent shot. (I own a 6 year old Kodak 3.1MP camera that, hands down, takes way better point-and-shoot auto-exposed photos than the Nikon S630. Unfortunately, the Kodak is fairly bulky and its viewing LCD, by today’s standards especially, is very tiny–which is why am I looking to supplement it with a newer camera.)

It turns out that a cousin of mine bought the same camera at about the same time, and she experienced similar results, and returned the camera. I am going to do the same thing. For me, it was unfortunately not the right choice.
