Canaon PowerShot A480 10
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I love this camera. It takes nice pictures and has nice capabilities that I have not used yet. I purchased it for basic picture taking. My only complaint is the power button and taking picture button on too close together. I kept turning the camera off at first. It took a while for me to get use to the buttons being so close together. I am still exploring the camera's features. It has a lot of memory, but I did purchase the additional memory disk. I have not used the additional memory disk yet. If you are looking for more range/zoom then this camera may not be for you. The zoom is great for intimate pictures but not if you are trying to focus farther out, i.e. concerts, weddings and you are not up front.

good! exactly what you'd expect maybe more
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
over all features are great. also nice having battery power so if yer in the desert or forest you can swap batteries and not be stuck with a plug-in/re-charge. picture is good, even better if you are fimilar with settings. and speaking of which, all the setting are accessible with the flick of a switch. setting ISO, flash and even timer settings is quick an painless. for its price, A+. way to go canon

Canon rocks!
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I've always been pleased with Canon products and this camera is no exception. Even though it is a low end camera (price-wise) the pictures are great. Isn't that what a camera is about?

would recommend
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Good, basic camera, purchased for our construction field staff, with varying levels of technical ability. Seems to be an all around good camera, with basic easy to use fucntions. Perfect for our needs.

Cheapest bottom basement Canon model
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
This camera has the same image processor as the other point and shoots from Canon. But, to reach a particular price point, Canon designed a model with no internal rechargable battery and they manufactured it out of cheap thin plastic. Otherwise, it has all of the features of most of their other models.

A lack of internal batter and charger and the super thin cheap plastic housing is not worth the measly 20 dollars saved buying this model over their next model.

I bought 2 of these for Christmas and they both got returned. The better models, for 20 dollars more, aren't just a little better....they're a LOT better.

My advice is to spend the extra 20 bucks and get another model.

Too fragile at any price
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I have bought hundreds of cameras for an insurance company, for use by Claims personnel. We started with Sonys and then I started buying Canon PowerShot a510, for reasons mentioned below. We rarely had "lens error" issues, I remember about 4 out of hundreds. When we got to the a480 being sold at the time of this writing, after almost no problems up to the a560, we got stuck lens with 6 out of every 10 cameras provided to our users.

We liked Canon because unlike the Sonys, they used standard batteries, required no special and expensive cable to transfer, and the only dislike was that there was no native memory on the camera, requiring a memory stick from the get-go. All through the "A" series (530-580) we got good life from these cameras. But the newest model was virtually broken in the box.

I assumed that this weakness of a spring or gearing was endemic to all cameras in this price range (under $150) since they all appear to spew from the same Chinese factory. We now buy Samsung SL30s are waiting to see what happens.

great little camera
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I purchased this for a trip to Vegas and it was great! Great pictures, and it's small enough to fit in a tiny purse.

OH DIGITAL WHERE FORE ART THOU ?
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
YOU KNOW I WANTED TO LIKE THIS CAMERA. I TRIED ALL THE MODES. I USED FRESH ALKALINE CELLS. A SANDISK EXTREME III SDHC CARD.
25% OF THE SHOTS WERE BLURRED (POOR AUTO FOCUS) THE REST WERE OF POOR QUALITY TOO. SOME THE SHOTS WERE OF THE SAME EXACT SCENE
TAKEN MULTIPLE TIMES. 25/75 WAS AS GOOD AS IT GOT...

OUR OLD NIKON COOLPIX 4800 STILL DOES A BETTER JOB !
BEAR IN MIND ALSO THAT I SHOOT NIKON FILM CAMERAS. AN N90S. SOME N2000'S. NIKON LENSES. THE PRINTS FROM THESE CAMERAS ARE AMAZING !
400 FILM. 100 FILM. NIKON SB-23 FLASH. RARELY DO I GET A BAD PHOTO...
MY SON'S CANON G10 ALSO DOES NOT IMPRESS ME.
COME ON, MAKE A GOOD DIGITAL CAMERA ! PUT GOOD LENSES IN THEM. ALLOW MANUAL CONTROL TOO !
THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH FILM. GET A 35mm NIKON (NOT AN N65!) AND GET GOOD PHOTOS.

Canon A480
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
If you're buying a camera in the $100 range don't expect fantastic pictures. For the price of this Canon A480 it does a fine job. The camera will be good enough for general use for the average consumer. If you want really great pictures you will need something like a Nikon D3000 with a starting $500 price range. I know most people won't carry around a big camera like this to take pictures of the kids at the zoo.. It's easy for a Woman to throw in her purse and snap snap you are good you will get decent quality photos. This is more of a family camera or a good camera for someone not wanting to spend much money and still wanting decent pictures. It has pretty basic features but everything you will need, the battery life isn't great so I recommend getting a recharge unit and some rechargable batteries for around $15 to $20 it will save you in the long run. It has a camcorder built in that does a really good job for a cheap camera and the sound it records is really good. This very well could be the best camera in this price range. I find it to take slightly better photos than the Nikon coolpix s220 which cost just a little more. I suggest getting a 4gig memory card the one it comes with won't hold but like 10 pics the 4gig will hold a 1000 + photos, get yourself a case to. Bottom line if you are looking for a camera in the $100 range this would be the one I would get.

Software does not work on Vista
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
Camera easy to use. Picture quality ok. My problem is the software loaded on Vista does not see the camera. Went onto Canon website and downloaded the latest software and still cannot see the camera. Have to remove SD card and manually load onto my PC.
