These affordable models are sure to be a hit with users who want high image quality regardless of their budget. The 12-megapixel FE cameras boast up to 5x super wide optical zoom for great panorama shots or close-ups of distant subjects. The three top models look especially striking thanks to a double layered crystal shell finish. In addition, they all offer a practical AF tracking feature which ensures that even moving subjects are in focus at all times. Also on board are advanced Face Detection technology and the i-Auto mode, which automatically identifies five commonly-encountered types of scenes and adjusts settings accordingly. Two of the FEs even offer innovative Magic Filters for a new level of creativity. more info

Only buy for a child

I bought this camera for my wife, and we were very disappointed by the picture quality. It’s true, you get what you pay for…
Great price, poor picture quality
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
My daughter wanted to have a camera for herself for this Christmas. I went over digital cameras all over the internet and found the best prices in Amazon. Then I found the Olympus FE-400 with 12mp for less $[...]! I had one Olympus camera before with which I had a great experience. It took great quality pictures, performed flawlessly and it even worked underwater. So I didn’t think about it twice when I saw the price for this Olympus camera.
Now I see the reason why it is so inexpensive. I even have an argument that my Nokia N95 8g’s 5mp camera takes better quality pictures.
Fortunately for me, this camera is not the family camera, it is my daughter’s camera who is 6 years old and at least I know she will be happy with it.
My recommendation is, buy a Nikon or Canon camera. These have proven to me to be the best cameras out there, and I have had several cameras throughout the years to know what I am talking about.

Could use one extra mode in scenes
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This is a very nice camera-especially for under $90. One thing I failed to check before purchasing is the various scene modes. Unfortunately, living in Florida requires a mode for Beach scenes, and this doesn’t appear to have one-but it does have many others. The display is quite good and compares well to the Canon A590IS. The on-screen menu is good-fairly intuitive. The instruction manual is available on disc (provided) or can be downloaded and saved from the Olympus site (pdf). You do not need the proprietary imaging software provided-Windows Photo Gallery or Picasa does just as well. The rechargeable lithium-ion battery appears to hold its charge very well-it is not rechargeable in the camera, but comes with a swivel wall plug charger and is easy to use. Battery removal/insertion is easy. Haven’t used the micro SD adapter yet, so can’t comment on that. The camera is described as “dark gray”, but is actually clad in a highly reflective- almost mirror like-finish. It does show fingerprints as a result, but they are easily avoided by being careful or removing with a semi-damp cloth. It was a good purchase for the money. Olympus seems to make a very good product, both build in terms of build and image quality.
Too much plastic

Very cheaply made feels like a kids toy camera. Returned it and bought a different one.
