Not much bang for the buck…
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I bought this item for my little one’s 3rd birthday by mistake. It wasn’t until after my child opened it and was playing with it that I realized that it didn’t play any games or have any other cool functions, as the model that I had INTENDED to buy does. The only thing it does is shoot pictures and is water resistant. I was especially unimpressed with the quality of the images on the viewfinder.
For the price I paid for it, I didn’t feel like I was getting much product for my money. After all, for only five bucks more, I could get another model by vTech that shoots pictures, has an SD card slot for additional memory, in-camera photo editing, shoots movies, can have sounds clips added to photo files, and has three fun preschool games!
I couldn’t get the batteries out of this Fisher Price model and put it back into its packaging to return to the store fast enough! For the lack of features on this camera, it really should be in a lower price point.
Needs New Batteries every half hour

We just got this camera and with in 30 minutes of putting BRAND NEW – BRAND Name batteries in it – they were dead. So we tried a different BRAND Name battery and they were dead over nite. Even though this has the auto shut off – something is really not right with the battery situation. Pix – were very low quality.
Excellent Buy!

I have to be honest, after reading all the reviews I was a bit concerned that the product might not be of high quality when it came to taking pictures, but boy are they wrong!
My 3 year old god-daughter absolutely loves her new camera and the images are fine! Sure, a little fuzzy (and i mean a little), but still very manageable… its not a problem to make out what she was taking a picture of. Her biggest problem is steadying her hand to capture the image straight (lol) but besides that it is a wonderful toy. The flash works
Its very strong and durable
Waterproof
And the fun noises makes it even more interesting
It’s meant to do that!
This is the perfect gift for a kid who likes to run away with your digital camera (lol) but no worries here if they drop this one
batteries could last longer….

My 5 year old daughter loves this camera and I love that there are blue and pink so that my son can have one too. My 3 year old son has trouble pushing the button to take pictures and the batteries run out very quickly which is frustrating for all. Loved the frustration free packaging as I couldn’t get the camera out of the fisher price packaging the first time!
Horrible
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Horrible product. The only good thing about it is that it’s rugged. Problems:
- image quality is horrible under all but the most ideal conditions. It requires very bright daylight.
- flash is so weak that even a subject 4 feet away turns out dark.
- it only takes alkaline batteries. It won’t take rechargeables.
- it will last only a few shots (20-30 w/ flash) with brand new batteries, at which point it says the battery is too low. But if you take those batteries out and put them in a tester, it reads that the battery is still very strong.
- it’s way over priced. I ended up getting a low end canon camera for about the same price and my 4 year old has much more fun with that, and we get much more interesting pictures from her perspective.
Takes terrible pictures
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
All other virtues are of little value when you have a camera that takes terrible pictures! Who cares how easy to use or durable the thing is if you can’t use it for the primary intended use of taking pictures! Don’t waste your money.
Great “tough” camera but needs improvements
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
This is a great toy for our almost 3 year old daughter. She loves take pictures of everything and has actually learned very quickly how to look through the winddows at the object she it taking pictures of. It is at an affordable price. Our complaint is that it goes through batteries daily. Since it is past time for us to return it, we are going to try rechargeable batteries. I feel so bad when she turns the camera on and it shuts off because because of this battery issue. Fisher Price really needs to consider a different battery option. Knowing this, we would have not bought the camera but whose to say another brand wouldn’t drain batteries just as fast. It is VERY durable which is a huge selling point. I don’t know if others are this durable. If you are looking for a cute, durable kids camera that takes decent pictures (considering the age of the child taking them!), goe with this camera…just buy recharable batteries with a charger.
Great first camera

Last Christmas we purchased this for our daughter and it has taken a beating since then. No, the pics don’t come out all that great but it is perfect for the age group. If you are looking for a camera that can take a beating this is it. She drops it on concrete, throws it outside, ran over it with her dora car, and dropped it out of the tree! Still, it takes pics and she loves it. This is the only toy she can beat and it won’t die!
Great camera if you find it on sale

My thoughts:
*Buttons are easy to use but not too easy. It’s hard for a kid to accidentally turn it on (you have to hold down two buttons at the same time) or accidentally delete pictures (you have to confirm a delete by pushing the delete button a second time. It can be a little hard to find the shutter. Sometimes I have to guide my daughter’s finger to it.
*The picture quality is low but it’s good enough. Really what kids want is to look at their pictures on the little LCD screen and the picture quality (and size of the screen) is perfectly fine for that. The quality of the pictures is also good enough to look at on a computer. We haven’t printed any and likely won’t waste the money (because the size of the picture would look like garbage), but my daughter has grown up in the era of digital photography and we don’t even print 99% of our own photos. The only people we print photos for anymore are computer illiterate grandparents. Looking at pictures on the computer is normal for her and it makes her happy. Every now and then, she accidentally shoots a picture good enough for me to use on facebook. It’s the whole infinite number of monkeys with an infinite number of typewriters thing.
*The image on the view finder doesn’t match what’s being photographed but the image on the LCD screen does. The view finder just shows the top half. Most kids take pictures haphazardly and it doesn’t matter, but it’s annoying when you’re actually trying to teach a kid about photo composition. We taught her to size up her photos using the LCD screen. Most of the time she takes pictures of people’s belts instead of their faces, but again, an infinite number of monkeys with an infinite number of typewriters.
*It eats through batteries like no tomorrow. Buy a charger and rechargeable batteries right away. We found that we needed to replace the batteries almost after every use.
*I paid about $40 for it and I hemmed and hawed over whether that was a fair price until my mother pointed out to me that when I was a kid, I had a polaroid instant camera (yea instant gratification!!!) and while the camera was cheaper, the film was $8 per package. So when I took pictures of people’s belt buckles, it grated on her nerves. The expense of the film prevented her from buying more film which prevented me from using this camera. If you buy this camera and rechargeable batteries, you’re done. The knowledge that the initial expenditure is going to be it means I pull this camera out regularly and encourage my daughter to use it. I still wouldn’t have paid $60 for it, but for $40 considering it’s digital, it’s a fair deal.
Hoped it was just ours.

Our daughter uses our digital camera and we thought this would be a nice substitute. Wrong. If your child already uses a digital camera then this one is a waste of time. The quality is ridiculous. I don’t even want to download the pictures to the computer as I think it would be a total waste of time. I’ve thought about putting it on craigslist but that would probably be a waste of time too. Looks like the landfill for you… Kid Tough!

My 7 year old grandaughter was thrilled with her camera – very easy to use. Fun to have her very own camera. Very durable.
It is fun for a couple of hours…

…and then it stops working. After a few hours with fresh batteries that camera stops working and can not be turned on. This is our second camera in the last week and both of them are doing the same thing. I do not recommend this camera.
The example of pictures that are shown are not accurate. The picture quality is much poorer.
The Vtech seems to be getting better reviews
Fun, but batteries pose an issue

We were excited to get this camera for our little girl. She loves using it. Snapping pictures is easy. She can scroll and delete pictures with ease. I think the display is not as good as it could be. I think the most disappointing thing is the battery life. She gets about one day of play before the batteries are used up. It is frustrating to her and to us as parents to have to unscrew the bottom and replace the batteries that often. It is also an extra expense one must take into consideration when purchasing this camera.

THIS WAS A GREAT PRICE FOR THIS CAMERA. I WISH THE VIEW FINDER WAS A BIT LARGER. TOTALLY A GOOD CAMERA FOR LITTLE HANDS.

Appalling battery life – Camera will not stay on
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I purchased this camera in July 2008 and found that after taking just a few photos, the camera either would not turn on or, by pressing the power button multiple times, it might or might not turn on and then it might or might not quickly turn itself off. Taking out the batteries and putting them in a battery tester would show that the batteries still had a like-new charge. Putting the batteries back in or putting in another brand-new set of 4 AAA alkaline batteries might or might not temporarily help.
I tried using different brands of fresh and new alkaline batteries (Eveready, Duracell, Kodak, Panasonic, and Rayovac) and had precisely the same results. Given that the owner’s manual only recommends alkaline batteries and specifically states “do not use rechargeable batteries”, I did not bother to experiment with anything except alkalines.
Assuming that my camera was defective, I exchanged it on October 30, 2008 and I had precisely the same performance with the second sample.
I see that a number of the reviews here are noting my same problem. I cannot understand how ANY the reviewers here could give this camera more than 1 star unless their sample of the camera did not exhibit this problem. If that’s the case, Fisher-Price has a major quality control problem and you should only purchase it only if you are willing to deal with the consequences of it not working properly.
Another issue is that Fisher-Price appears to sell two different cameras with exactly the same name – “Fisher-Price Kid-Tough digital camera”. Mine is the one that typically sells for $60, is available in pink or powder blue, and has three molded-in stripes on the side hand-holds. The other version has a textured pebble finish on the side hand-holds. Maybe that other model performs better and the reviews are getting interchanged between the two models?? I don’t know why, but Fisher-Price makes it hard to find a model number for my version. There’s no number on the packaging. However, on the bottom of the camera, in very small type, it says M8071/M8072. On the back of the owner’s manual, it says M8071a-0920. Neither of these is labeled as a model number.
It’s a shame that this camera has the problem I describe. Otherwise, I think it’s fantastic. Sure, the image quality is terrible, but, hey , it’s just a toy and my kids (ages 3 and 6) absolutely love it when it works. For them, it’s easy and fun to use. Plus, if you believe what it says on the packaging, it is “water proof!” and “BUILT TO SURVIVE DROP, AFTER DROP, AFTER DROP!” However, what’s the point if you can’t turn it on?
camera was a hit

My niece loved the camera. Six months later and it still works. She is 5 and always wants to take pictures, now she can.

The Good, The Bad & The Ugly
After the first 3 weeks, the camera wouldn’t turn on. So, we replaced the batteries several times, and nothing! So, I contacted Amazon, and back it went! We received the new camera, and all was fine until just recently (6 mos later). Same problem!!!! Now it’s too old, no returns accepted.

This is such a great idea! My DD loves this camera…unfortunately the camera doesn’t love her
Camera has a pretty large memory – quality is pretty poor, however can keep a little one busy for a long time! Be prepared to replace batteries regularly with use, as it tends to eat them up! Unfortunately the quality is not made to last a long time. Not sure it is worth the $$ just to be used a few short months.
Waste of Money
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I wish I would have just spent the money on a real digital camera verses buying this item. The picture quality is HORRIBLE. The battery life is short and I have put several sets of batteries in this product. I would not recommend this for a child. I would suggest to just spend the money on a cheap digital camera instead. Worse technological toy I have purchased.
Excellent camera for kids!

This is an excellent gift for children… they learn how to take pictures using their own camera.
a waste of $

I bought this for my daughter and although she was excited to get it it never worked properly. The camera kept shutting down. it wouldn’t take the photos, the button is difficult to push for a little one. After re-reading the directions and replacing batteries multiple times, we gave up. Felt like I wasted $50.
My daughter loves it, but the pictures are TERRIBLE.
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
We bought this for my 3 year old daughter for Christmas and she loves it. She takes it around the house and takes pictures of whatever she is looking at. The controls are intuitive enough that after I showed her how to use it a couple of times, that she mastered it. I had noticed that when we were viewing pictures on the LCD on the back of the camera that they looked bad. If the flash fired they where blown out and other issues. However I attributed it to the LCD and not necessarily the pictures themselves. Well last week I pulled the pictures off of the camera and I was very disappointed to see that the pictures just really are that bad. When the flash doesn’t fire, the pictures are tolerable, but when it does, they are down right bad. These pictures have a lower quality than the majority of cell phone pictures I have seen. The bottom line is that your kid may enjoy playing with it, but don’t expect to have may keepsakes to put in the family photo albums.
Not Worth It

This product did not work at all. It was a birthday gift for my daughter and was a big disappointment. Even though we put fresh batteries in the camera, it would turn itself off constantly. There was a problem with the power. Also, the image in the viewfinder on back of the camera was awful.
