Excellent condition for being used but…….
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I just received my camera today and I was excited when I opened up the box to see that the camera was in excellent condtion and almost looks brand new! I checked to make sure everything was in the box and grabbed the battery to try and charge it but noticed that they DID NOT put the a/c adaptor in the box!!! I was so upset looking through the box to see if had overlooked it and noticed that they forget to put the remote in there too!! I understand that I did buy this camera used BUT if they did not have all the pieces that belonged to the camera, it should have been notated before I purchased it. Other than that, the camera looks awesome!
A great camcorder for home movies
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This inexpensive and compact DVD camcorder exceeds expectations in video and sound quality. With the option of recording direct to mini-DVD, which can be viewed in both standard and blu-ray DVD players, or on a memory stick for viewing on a PC, this camcorder is great for creating general home movies. This is the first camcorder I’ve had since the now “classic” days of VHS video and the first thing I noticed is how seamless the stops and starts in recording are on playback. Its best feature may be its excellent 40x optical zoom lens. The downside is that its battery does not last very long. I have found that it needs to be replaced or recharged shortly after approximately 30 minutes of recording. I purchased a second battery for it, but I plan to buy at least one more. Regardless, this is a nice camcorder for capturing those special family moments.

Great price for a great product. Exactly what I needed. Easy to use, touch screen.
BE CAREFUL!!!

In general, this is a nice Handycam. However, be careful! No where does it state that this model DOES NOT have an external microphone jack. You must purchase the model 710 or 810 for this feature. I discovered after opening the box [20% + shipping loss to return even though it was never used]. For my purpose this was a serious problem. I will probably have to sell on EBAY so I can upgrade.
SONY DCR-DVDHANDYCAM

I am very satisfied with this camcorder. I found it easy to use, by just trying out different things. The booklet was a little hard to grasp,I had to read it a few times before I got how to do certain things. The only thing I was not to crazy about was the location of the zoom control. I found myself accidently using the zoom while holding the camera. All in all I would recommend this product to anyone needing a camcorder.
Disappointing camera

This is my second Sony camcorder. The first bought back in 2000 was a HI-8 digital tape camcorder. That was a good camera, quality pictures, decent battery life, lots of features…etc., etc. But I digress, I recently began seeing these small pocket size cameras at school functions and was really jealous because mine was big and heavy. After much research I decided to go with this DVD Hybrid camera. I wanted this camera for ease of playback (DVD’s) and ease of uploading video to laptop for sending video to relatives out of state. For those reasons the camera was good however the picture quality was horrible unless it was high noon with full sun. Indoors with regular room light images were dark and out of focus, really? Strike one. Then (I guess I didn’t research enough) the DVD’s for this are only 30 minutes at standard quality, and 20 minutes for high quality, really? 20 or 30 mins. and I have to get a new disc and then carry around extras? Strike two. The flash card is nice to record to but even that with no memory issues that still has poor video quality. You can read all reviews and research but sometimes you really can’t tell until you get it out of the box. The touchscreen was nice but having it open and using it sucked the battery dry. The memory card is an extra [...] bucks at Walmart for the 4 GB. Oh, I forgot to mention the steady shot is horrible, the images were very shaky, and that was with minimal movement. I also saw they just released a newer version of this camera the 650, don’t know about that but this 610 is only 1 year old but that’s electronics.
Piece of Junk you will regret owning

what a piece of crap. this coming from a lifetime sony handycam user. There is a glitch that interferes with camera during playback on camera that always ends in the disaster of loosing all your footage.. has error message Movie recording diabled. Ruins the disc and all videos magically dissappear from camera. Sony’s website and support nor any website can accureately tell me how to stop it from doing this. so annoying. Just lost great footage I will never get back of baby 1st and my m.i.l lost her whole hawaii trip. Worst handy cam ever I highly recommend getting the dcr-sr45. so much better. totally plug and play and has awesome software and you can upload videos online or to facebook. if this were my camera and not my mother in laws I would throw it in the trash. Pics that it takes look worse than my first cellphone camera. I think this camera confuses itself due to card inputs and disc drive. Don’t believe me???Google message movie recording disabled
excellent cam!

we are very happy with this Sony cam. We are a Sony family and love all their products and this one does not disappoint
Is this a sony?

Sony had been making good products. got DVD-DCR100 as gift to a relative. bought DCR300 for myself. after 4 years, the lense cover won’t open. bought DCR610. after 3 months, i consider it as a piece of junk:
1. no flash light. very difficult to take pictures outdoor with bright sun.
2. highest resolution at 720×480,,, <1MB (0.4MB!!!). pictures on 19" computer screen show grains of rock-size. it is my fault that i did not do more research before buying it. But i never would thought someone is still making cameras with this kind of resolution.
3. after 20 some years of nice sony experience, it costs ~$300 to blow it all out. have to shop for one for next week’s trip to disney world. will look for a hi-definition one to avoid this kind of mistake of fine-print. but WOULD never look into a sony again.
Good pictures, easy to use
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Takes good pictures. Easy to use. Doc’s weren’t real clear about trying to delete files from DVD versus from the memory card. The DVD, you can re-format the entire thing but not delete individual files, like you can on the memory stick. Once I figured that out, everything else is pretty much straight forward.
Nice camera but not completely Mac compatible….
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I love the camera. I’ve had it almost a year and enjoy the ease of use it provides. However, Sony isn’t completely truthful when advertising the camcorder as Mac compatible. The CD is only for Windows–no Mac software is provided. While the enclosed USB cable does work to transfer .jpg files from the memory stick, it does nothing for transferring the movie files.
After almost a year of using a DVD player hooked to my Miglia TV Max+ to feed the video into Quick Time and re-record my movies, I found a program named Handbrake that will export the movies directly from the camcorder to my Mac.
Sony Camcorder

My husband really enjoys this camcorder. He says it’s lightweight and simple to use. I purchased it for him for Christmas and it came earlier than expected. He used it for Christmas morning and we were watch the playback that afternoon. Great product.
Everything I’d expected it to be!

The camcorder is my very first, and I’m enjoying every moment using it. The sound is clear as well as the images. It’s also very handy and light to carry.. This is really great!
just the right size

Just got this, great size, lightweight. Have to figure out all the nuances etc. still learning.
Great Product!!!

Sony usually makes great electronics. I got this for my wife and she loves this camcorder. She uses this camcorder like crazy. The touch screen is awesome and is easy to use. We have 2 4GB memory sticks and she has put tons of pictures and videos on them since Christmas.
A winner
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I bought this as a birthday present for my wife and she loves it. The price was right, it was easy to use, good video and sound quality, small and compact ect..It has alot of great features. i’m no director but I managed to get some nice videos done..a good purchase.
Good camcorder
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I really like the size of this camcorder, plus the fact that it goes directly to the DVD. The one thing I dislike is that the lens cover does not automatically open and shut. I have had mine one year now and the lens cover will not close at all. You need to be sure that the small DVD’s will work in your DVD player also.
Decent Video cam, but mediocre low light/indoor performance, limited recording time, very basic upload software
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This is a decent video cam that offers some good features:
1) ability to record to mini-DVD’s that you can upload with the included software fairly easily
2) Good quality still pictures.
3) Decent upload software.
The negatives?
1) Low light/indoor performance – This video cam is compromised by its performance indoors and in lower light. It seems to go through extensive adjustment to get to “equilibrium’ when indoors and we end up with a lot of dark spots on videos. It’s not horrible, but have definitely seen better. The quality is worse than my friend’s flip camera, which is disappointing.
2) mini-DVD’s don’t have much recording time (~30 minutes).
Honestly, I find myself making a lot more recordings on my Canon point and shoot camera these days as they turn out good video quality and decent audio. It’s a lot more convenient than schlepping a video cam and point and shoot camera.
nice easy to use camcorder
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This camcorder is a very good value. I have used it for a variety of tasks, such as recording family events. It does a great job for that. I have also used it for recording my band’s rehearsal sessions. Obviously, you are not going to get studio quality sound with a camcorder’s microphone. That said, this one did a reasonably good job of capturing even the low end.
I haven’t used the record to disk feature, so I cannot comment on that. I’d recommend getting a large (8GB or more) pro-duo memory stick, which is what I did. Why waste disks? All you have to do is plug the camera into your PC and transfer the files. Lather, rinse, repeat. And if you want to burn disks, why, that’s what the computer’s for!
The user interface for this camcorder is very intuitive. That’s probably one of the highest compliments I can pay. Good video and sound quality are essential, but if you can’t use the stinking thing, then what’s the point? I really didn’t even use the manual and was able to figure out mostly everything just by using it.
Two small gripes: even zoomed all the way out, the shots are a bit tight. Being able to zoom out a little further would be nice so if you cannot physically move back from the subject you can still capture a reasonably wide shot. Also, it has a camera feature (as in for still photos) which isn’t very good; the pictures are on par with a basic cameraphone. That’s a secondary feature and not one I planned to use anyhow, so I don’t really care about that. I don’t think either of these gripes diminish the camcorder’s quality or ease of use.
You could certainly buy a better camcorder, but for the money this is a winner. No buyer’s remorse on this one.
All I could want

This camera is everything I could ask for from a Sony and a little bit more. It is not a Canon, but it is much more than I would expect from Sony.
Outstanding Product

Easy to use. I bought a refurbished one but it looks brand new and works great! I’m very happy with this purchase.
The Coolest Camcorder
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This is the coolest camcorder, course the last one I had you actually had to insert a tape, but I still think it’s great! It’s easy to use and very durable! I love it!
no disks!.
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
It is a good easy to use little camera. It was a gift and it was not ready to use. It did not come with disks or memory card and was not clearly labeled as such.
Issue with disc door
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I was given this camera as a gift in anticipation of the homecoming of my second-born. The camera never worked right and after 8 months of getting weird intermittent error messages and being unable to capture countless video-opps, the camera deleted my priceless Christmas footage. I finally sat down down to trouble shoot issue (Am mother of 2 under 3) and was advised by Sony Customer Service that the disc door must be loose and I should send camera to Sony for repairs. I was told this would cost 129$ as we were out of the warranty (although we only received the camera 8 months ago) Pretty pricey for a camera that never worked. I would not recommend this camera and will never buy Sony again. I hope noone ever gifts me Sony either!
