High quality product

I’m not sure how much more there is to say about this lens cap. It comes packaged in a plastic bag stapled to a cardboard card. It snaps securely in place, which is a nice change from the stock cap on my Powershot S5IS. I do miss the leash, and will probably be buying an aftermarket tether soon for it. You can probably buy one for cheaper in another brand, but I decided to get the Canon so I could be sure it would fit properly on my Canon adapter tube. For that purpose, it works perfectly.

works as advertised
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I gave it a 4 star rating because though it works as advertised, its missing one very important feature (the reason i lost it in the first place)…It needs a strap or a string so that you can attach it to the camera.

Too much $$, but fits best. No cap keeper!
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I take an extra Cap for either end of each of my lenses. If two lenses share the same cap size then I only take a single extra, as I don’t plan on losing TWO on the road, at least not the same day… You could always go with an off brand and pay a little less, since let’s face it, by all rights, this thing should be about 4 bucks, MSRP! I still haven’t tried Adorama’s house brand, but will probably try one of those next time if it’s half the price of Canon’s. 3rd party filter caps don’t tend to work on the lens sizes that the filters are for. That is, if you buy a filter set, and it comes with a lens cap, the cap often doesn’t fit very well on the lens itself, but it does fit well on the filter it came with… just my experience with a couple different filters/brands. Lastly, this doesn’t come with a “keeper”, so it’s just loose… of course you could always use the keeper that came with one of your filter sets, should you be so lucky. Finally just having to do with caps in general, I would like to see a 3 or 4 way cap with that many tabs, so when you brush it, it doesn’t just come off, but of course this might make it harder to take off than is desirable with the 2 tab method.

Summary:

+ Fits properly.

- Cost (should be at most $4 MSRP).

- No ‘cap keeper’ included.

Great Fit

The lens cap performs well. I hope to get a cap holder before I lose this one.

Perfect Fit!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Just got this lens cover earlier. I was a bit worried that it won’t fit my lens (i have a Canon Rebel XTi) because of some of the reviews I read…but thank goodness that it fits! it fits perfectly! I’m so happy…I lost my original lens cap when I was in NZ riding the sky cable…hehehe…i might get another one of this just for safe keeping…

I’m very happy about this purchase and it was delivered pretty fast…I ordered it Friday and got it on Monday….

Awesome!

I lost the original cap and was desperately looking for the cap. When I got in the mail I was disappointed because it was not the exact one. But then as I found out, this was even better. It fits better and is more secure. It worked out even better for me!

Perfect size for my Canon Rebel XTi (SLR). It even seemed to fit a little better. 5/5 in my book. Wish it were a little more inexpensive, but hey, it’s not a cheap hobby is it?

Replacement Cap
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I lost my lens cap a long time ago, and have been using a UV filter to protect my lens while I searched for a new lens cap. While that was a fine solution for a while, I kept putting off getting a replacement until I could “pick one up at the store to save on shipping time/cost.” Then for a year, (non-camera specific) stores that should carry lens caps NEVER had this size! WTF? They sell Canon DSLR cameras with kit lenses that are THIS SIZE, but they “don’t carry” this lens cap?

Anyway, there isn’t a lot to say about this lens cap except that it is exactly what came with my camera when we bought it new, it is Absolutely Necessary, and I’m really glad that I finally replaced it. Only, this time I wish I had gotten the little rope that connects it to my camera, because I have seriously almost lost the thing twice already. I don’t want to keep buying these every year for the rest of my life, even though Amazon would probably appreciate the automatic yearly $9.

It was shipped very quickly and arrived new and sealed and fabulous.

Great cap – snaps on, stays on! Nice accessory for the Canon Vixia HFS10
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I bought this as an accessory to my Canon VIXIA HFS10 – I know it doesn’t really need a cap, since there’s an automatic lens cover, but I use this as a cover for my filter.

I always like to keep a Tiffen 58mm UV Protection Filter on, both for the UV protection and to keep debris off the lens while I’m filming. Believe it or not, someone spit while I was filming once and the wind blew it right onto the lens. So now I always keep a UV filter on there, and then I like to keep this cap on the filter to protect it while it’s in my bag.

This is a great cap. You couldn’t ask for a better. It snaps on easily and stays on until I snap it off. Exactly what I wanted.

Release grips could be better.
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
The Canon Lens caps that come with most of your lenses are highly effective for their purpose, they fit snug, and protect well. I have never had the cap fall off unintentionally.

The downfall of this (and most) canon lens caps are the release feature. When your lens is outfitted with its respective lens hood it becomes very difficult to snap the cap on the lens or filter. Unless you have a very wide and short hood on your lens, (like hoods for an ultra wide angle), one will always have problems quickly removing / adding the cap.

Sigma has designed the release of their lens caps as a center squeeze as opposed to canon’s edge release. This is much more convenient and easier to use than canons system.

Warning: This is not a replacement fror the Lens Cap for the SX10
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Although the dates of these reviews have changed since I ordered this lens cap, when I did order it, the implication was that it was a replacement for the lens cap that came with the Canon SX10 and SX20 IS. It isn’t. It was my stupid mistake because I was looking at “Other things that SX10 buyers buy,” this lens cap was one of them. But it’s for the extension lens.

It’s not fair to give it one star, but when it was first offered, it was completely misleading. Since so many had complained about the fact that there’s no tether from the lens cap to the camera, I assumed that it was a replacement lens cap. It isn’t, and I guess that’s enough said.

I’m still looking for a replacement, btw. It’s obvious to me that I’m going to lose the original. I’ve already misplaced it in shirt and pants pockets, and I’ve dropped it a number of times, narrowly missing a grate over the river in the park.

Great cap…forgetful photographer
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
These are great caps for me and I haven’t had any trouble with them staying on, albeit all my lenses are Canon. The problem is that I take them off and forget where I laid it or, in one case, I put one in my pocket and forgot it…didn’t fare well in the dryer!!! The only smart thing I have done is order an extra and keep it in a zippered pocket in my case…now if I don’t forget where the extra is. :)

This did NOT fit my Canon Powershot S5 IS and had to be returned. My suggestion if you need a cap is to go to a camera store to ensure that the cap fits properly.

Works great!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I bought a Canon SX10 IS in January, which was my first big camera purchase after using a small Kodak P&S for five years. My only concern about the camera was that there was no way to protect the lens. After a lot of research and reading reviews, I found out a company called Lensmate makes an adapter. I ordered the adapter and a UV filter, to protect the lens of my camera. I forgot to order a lens cap for the filter though, and found this one on Amazon. It fits perfectly and works great! Very pleased!

Good as Original

I dropped a lens cover that came with one of my lenses and needed a replacement. This is virtually identical to the original and gets the job done.

Works Perfect for my Rebel XTi.
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I recently lost my lens cap for my Cannon Rebel XTi. I was worried about buying this because so many reviewers said it didn’t fit their Canon, but this cap fits my Rebel XTi perfectly. It’s a perfect replacement for the lens cap that came with my camera.

If you’ve lost your lens cap on your Rebel XTi, get this lens as a replacement! :)

Fits snug and looks great
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Let me start by saying, there seems to be a misconception this cap is specifically for the S series cameras; it is for ANY Canon camera that can support 58mm adapters, filters etc.

-The S1/2/3 feature a pop-on cap and this is NOT a pop-on cap. Therefore the E-58U will not fit as the “original” cap does.

-The S5 uses this “style” of cap, and is about the same size (overall), but as stated above, the E-58U is NOT an OEM replacement cap. The S5 OEM cap is roughly a 47mm cap, because the locking tabs are positioned farther in (to match the inner diameter of the S5′s “trim ring”). That means the OEM cap size is 11mm smaller compared to the E-58U, which is the reason the E-58U will not fit as the S5′s OEM cap does.

This cap is designed to fit into either a lens adapter, filter, or lens with threads; which would be mounted to the camera. The locking tabs of the cap have threads on them, which are designed to lock into threads.

One thing the “default image” does not show very well, is the color of the lettering: “Canon” is silver and “Ultrasonic” is a brassy-gold. The letters also have a slight sheen to them.

The only minor drawback to this cap is the lack of a tether or a hole to accept one. However, there are a couple solutions to this, one of which was discovered by a fellow reviewer-

“M. Nascimento: Purchase a Lens Cap String with the 2 sided round tape button that you attach to the front of the lens cap.”

In closing-

If you are looking for a “replacement” S series factory cap, this cap is NOT for you.

If you have 58mm threaded filters, step rings, lenses, or a 58mm lens adapter and need a snug fitting cap, this is a great one!

unnecessary really..
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
i took my camera with me on the trip to italy. my sister was getting married in sicily :)

i bought two of these caps thinking i would probably lose one at some point and be glad to have another. I also bought the 58mm UV haze lens and the lens adapter kit (so i could use the little lens). turns out that (haha) in the few hours i spent looking up info about this camera no one said that you cant use a lens cap anymore if you put a different lens on the camera! i guess its a duh but how should i have known really…

so i have two unopened lens caps here (i found that they dont work with the adapter by using the one that came with the camera in the first place)

im not a camera pro or really good at photography or anything.. ive learned how most of the features of my camera work by trial and error mostly..taken the camera in and out of the bag 20 some times an hour.. and the little UV lens has actually been a great fingerprint and dust cover for me! So my recommendation is not to buy this lens cap and instead pay a few pennies more and get the adapter and UV lens instead.

besides now youre ready to get other lenses and all your pics will be a little nicer thanks to the lens!

haha

ok hope this helps..

im gonna go sell my lens caps on ebay now…
