almost perfect
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
First off, I thought All in One meant printer, copier, scanner and fax. Apparently fax is not part of this All in One package. My fault for not reading more carefully.

Fortunately, I still have my old machine for faxing.

That said, I do love this machine. Set up was a breeze. It bonded seamlessly with my network, 3 laptops running MS Vista, XP Pro, and Mac OS X Snow Leopard. All in addition to my iMac running OS X Snow Leopard. Everybody plays nice.

When a doc is first sent to the printer, it takes a few extra seconds to start printing, mostly due to the location of the printer vs. the router. I can totally deal with this lag time for the convenience of the wireless connection. It’s a bit larger out of the box than I’d hoped, but the footprint is necessary due to the flat bed scanner (something I would not sacrifice).

I’ve had the Cannon for about a month now, and it’s held up well to daily use. All in all a good machine for my home business and personal use.

Really Nice Wireless Printer
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I have been a HP printer owner for over 13 years. I am on my 3rd in that time, the current one being an All-in-One from about 5 years ago. I really like the HP, but it is not wireless, so my family has had to printer share over 1 PC to print from other computers. We also wanted one that could print on both sides automatically. After much research, I opted for the Canon MP560, and am not disappointed. I was able to buy it from Amazon.com for only $85 just a few weeks ago! It’s retail price is $150.

Here is what I really like about the Canon MP560 that my HPs did not have:

1. Wireless Network Printing

2. Prints on both sides

3. Wireless Network Scanning

4. Borderless photo printing that looks as good as photo developers and is supposed to last over 100 years

5. Separate color ink cartridges that have red lights built in to show that the cartridges are installed correctly

This was easy to set up, and allows you to scan back to a PC on your network from the built-in LCD screen. I also like that it is a color copier and can print photos directly from some digital camera cards.

The only thing that I wish this model had was a fax and auto document feeder. I researched reviews on the Canon equivalent with those features, but there were too many poor reviews, that I opted not to pay more for those features if the printer was not so good.

The testing that I did on this printer worked great, so I recommend this printer, especially at the good price.

Terrible – forcing you to buy ink
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Epson printers and all-in-ones are lousy. There are five ink cartridges, all of which are expensive, and here’s the deal – if one of them runs out, the printer will stop printing until you replace it. Period. “But I am just printing black and white, and I just put in a new black cartridge. Why should an empty magenta cartridge matter?” Well, it does for some reason. I’m guessing the reason is to sell more ink cartridges, which is where they make their money. Shame on you, Epson.

This printer was the update to my Canon MP620 which has been a great all-in-one. I thought the update might even be better – wrong. Print quality was awful and even after paying an “expert” to try to get a better picture quality it was no where near what the MP620 could do. Sent it back.

Very impressive printer
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I purchased this printer as a Xmas gift. It is an awesome purchase. I am always toooooooo lazy to leave any review for any online purchase, even I do shop very often on amazon. However, for this printer, I really wanted to say something good about it, so the buyers who are still shopping or hesitating can benefit from my experience. I am not super good with computer stuff, but I think the setup is very easy and I had no problem for the machine to be up running in about 20 min. It scans, prints, and copies at decent speed. It does duplex printing, and I love it, so we can save TREES!!! I have never used other photo printers, but at least I am very happy with the printing quality of this printer. The only complaint is when it is printing, it does get a little noisy. However, it is overall a great product. We absolutely luv it!

Great Value
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Printer was easy to install, easy to set up the wireless connections across all 3 Windows platforms (XP, Vista and Windows 7) that I have. It’s a little noisy when it prints, but that’s to be expected – it’s a printer. Installing the software on 2 Netbooks with Windows 7 was easy, as the drivers were pre-installed. Only issue is it’s not being able to print “true to life” colors on paper, the colors come out a little dull. Overall, great printer value for the price.

Great machine
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Arrived quickly well protected and packed. Lots of orange safety tape tabs on lots of spots on the printer itself. What could have been a simple operation of inserting the ink cartridge carrier was confusing because of the “easy to understand pictographs” explaining what to do. It really was easy to do. The “helpful” instructions made it needlessly complex.

I ignored hard copy installation instructions (I’m a guy, it’s against the guy union rules to read instructions, what can I say) Followed prompts as per printer display screen. Instructions claim you must manually disable wireless connection at the physical printer controls to print over the wired network: pick either wired or wireless printing not both. ARRGH! I have 3 desktop machines in my home wired network and 2 laptops plus my iPhone in my wireless network. In spite of what other reviewers said and what the installation instructions claim this printer works perfectly on both wired and wireless networks run from the same router without manually switching print modes (Netgear switchboxes and Linksys WRT54GL wireless router WEP security)perfectly. I installed the Iphone app: Canon Easy Photo Print on my iPhone 3GS and can now print photos wirelesly from my phone. I’m pirnting from my wired desktop, my daughter and wife print from their wireless laptops.

PRO’S: Installation was easy using WinXP Pro SP3 printer control panel. Prints clean quick nice looking output. Works simultaneously from the wired network and the wireless network. Copies look great. None of the special Canon software supplied seemed necessary to use as printer or copier.

CON’S: Installation software on CD is glitchy and ultimately failed to complete. Canon’s own claims about what the MP560 can do seem wrong. Printed instructions that came with printer insist you must switch from wired to wireless mode. This was not true for me. Be prepared to spend a little time working through the install process, it was manageable but not smooth. Canon installation software crashed every time I ran it and never did admit to finding the printer wirelessly. After multiple tries I gave up and detected the wireless printer from Windows which worked perfectly. After rebooting Windows Canon software showed up as installed and has worked great ever since.

Conclusion: I’m very happy. I like the MP560, prints great for average home use, both wirelessly and wired. I only tried the scanner in copy mode and it was easy to use, made great copies. Be prepared for a bit of a project using the installation software which is glitchy. Setup and installation instructions are poor. If you can set up your own wireless network at home getting this printer to work will be a breeze. If WEP encryption sounds like a Cold War spy story and you’re pretty sure you have a router but not sure what it does do not buy this printer, Get something with better installation software.

Donna’s Review
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Once I realized I needed my router information to program the printer, I was able to install it by myself and I’m a SENIOR citizen. Besides regular printing, I’ve used it to print colored 4×6 pictures and they came out great. I’m so happy that I purchased this printer.

Nice Printer but….
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I purchased this printer through Amazon a few months ago, I like the unit, it operates well and does what its supposed to do. The wireless feature set up automatically and with no trouble. Overall I am very pleased with the operation of the printer. BUT…and this is a big BUT..I now need print cartridges for it and find out that the OEM cartridges (all 5) will set me back almost $65.00 !!! Hey the printer only cost $85.00 !!! So if you need to replace the ink I suggest you just buy another one of these, that way you will always have a new unit with full ink! (Do you think printer manufactures discount their printers and make the $ on the ink!!) I think so!

Nice multi function for the Price.
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This is a good multi function for the price point. Ink is going to be through the roof for a printer of this cost.

FYI – The scanner function does NOT work wireless and requires a USB cable that is NOT included.

I am using this with Snow Leopard and it works fine.

CD included is not the up to date software that Canon suggest using and you should download the software from their site as opposed to using the CD installation.

Nice!

Bought this to replace mi old Pixma IP3000 and Canon Lidescan. Boy what a difference, the MP560 feels more sturdy, better built, scans beautifully and to a USB port if I want to! Wireless worked fine for me. Only complaint would be the seup documentation, it feels like you are building a space rocket.

Good Printer, Good Tech Support
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I bought this printer about a month ago to replace a dinosaur that came with my old PC. The old printer was not very difficult to use because it did nothing but print, and did that slowly and not so well when it came to photos. I wanted to be able to scan documents into pdf format, send them wirelessly to my year-old laptop and print better photos. The Canon MP 560 does all that very well. Being somewhat of a dinosaur myself when it comes to new technology, I found it a little more difficult to set it up than some reviewers did, and I felt that the instructions could have been clearer. After several attempts to establish a wireless connection using both the instructions that came in the box and the online manual, I had to call Canon tech support for help. I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly I got through to a technician. He was very helpful and the experience with Canon tech support was a very positive one. Now that I am familiar with the printing and scanning functions of the MP 560, I find it easy to use. Photo quality is excellent and printing photos is a breeze. I am very pleased with the printer and would recommend it to anyone for home use.

MP560
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Setup was easy due to good directions with the included disc and I was up and running in about 20 mins.. Overall this is very nice printer. I was pleasantly suprised at the build quality. Of course it is a Canon. I like that it makes 2 sided prints without you having to do anything. It just flips the paper on its own. The scroll wheel works very well to navigate through the menu. The software included is very well organized and offers some very nice features like quiet mode for nightime printing when you don’t want to make too much noise. It really does tone down the printing more than I thought it woulda although you sacrifice a little speed. Its already fairly quiet when printing normally. Speed of printing is excellent, but not the fastest around. I’m very content though with the speed and quality of prints that it outputs vs my old HP that didn’t print good quality when on fast mode. The scanner also scans very nicely and gives you many options to save the file as PDF, JPEG and so on. Network capability is easy to set up with the included disc. This is a very nice printer and would recommend it.

Canon 560 – Wow
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
So, I’ve been out of the printer loop for a while. It’s been about 6 years since I lived in a household that had a printer (since I just printed from the library in college + they just seem to be too much hassle). Well, I finally graduated and now have my own place and was getting tired of having to print simple things like ‘print lables’ off at work. I decided it was time to get a relatively inexpensive printer and came across this one on Newegg on Black Friday for a pretty good deal. ($80)

I had mediocre to low expectations from a photo printer (since I haven’t played with one in 6 years) and was BLOWN away when I saw the quality of my first 4×6 print! I was very, very impressed. I was definitely not expecting store quality prints (these might even be better). I used the Canon Photo Paper Plus Glossy II that came with the printer.

Granted, the ink is pretty expensive for this thing, but I really dont know how many pictures to expect from 1 set of cartridges, so time will tell more about that. However, the quality is really good, so I’m happy.

Again, I am very pleased with this purchase. It is gonna make me get much more into printing photos than I had originally planned. (I’m thinking, it will make for some wonderful xmas presents for the fam and gf)

So, there you have it. An opinion from someone who didn’t expect much – but, I would like to point out that I am a software developer, so its not like I’m completely out of tune with technology, either. Hope this helps someone who may be a printer newbie who’s straddling the fence.

Great bang for the buck!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This printer has excellent print quality and the printer does not take up a lot of space. The only wire on my setup is the power cord. It Prints well up to about 8X10 prints. The scanner is also pretty decent for scanning in small photos or documents. The software itself does what it is supposed and it has some features for cleaning up red eye and cropping. I wish it had some tools for removing or changing pixels like photoshop but I know that may be asking for a lot for the price point. The software was not difficult to setup except the fact that it had issues printing which was relating to the printer object it creates. I am an IT professional, so for me I knew to delete there printer object and create it myself using the XP wizard and supplying the driver and IP address of my printer. However, I can see that being annoying for a home user and not so easy to get working. I set it up on a Mac OS X, and a PC so the compatibility with both is there an works. I also have a secure wireless network so it works with that as well and I have not had any issues and it has been up and running and getting used a few times a week for about a month.

Great Printer for a Wireless All in One
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I purchased this printer so I could have a smaller form factor wireless printer in a more accessible location in my home since my other primary printer that has a wired Ethernet connection is upstairs. I needed a wireless printer since location was important and I did not have an Ethernet connection available in the location. The printer was easy to setup and the wireless connection was made without a hitch right from the printer’s front panel. The instruction booklet is much improved from what I’ve seen from Canon before. It is intuitive and the instructions are divided on each page between connection to a Mac computer and a PC. I installed the drivers and connected the printer to both Mac and PC laptops. This printer is impressive since it packs so much functionality into a small form factor. The print quality is great, but as with any inkjet printer, the print quality is dependent on the paper you use. It’s also the quietest printer I’ve ever had. I have mine in an enclosed wooden cabinet beneath my TV that has solid wood doors. Even with the doors closed it prints without fail from our laptops when used anywhere in the downstairs area of our home via the wireless connection. When I send documents to the printer from a laptop, I sometimes question whether it printed since I do not hear anything. But when I go to the cabinet and open the door, the printed paper is there! Its paper handling functions, such as Duplex printing, are also excellent.

So far, I’ve printed B&W and color documents, numerous photos of various sizes from both our laptops and from memory cards inserted into the printer in its available slots and it has not failed to impress me with the print speed, print quality, and ease of printing. I have an HP LJ 7650 Color All in One printer that’s good, but this printer has everything the HP printer has and more, especially when comparing print speed and quiet operation. If you’re looking for a good quality wireless printer that sits in an 18″ by 18″ space, this is the one to get.

Never recieved actual product BUY.com that shipped it is HORRIBLE
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I will NEVER purchase an another item that is shipped from “[...]” They don’t give you a tracking number on your packages, just and estimated time window of when it will be shipped. In my cased between Dec 4 – 9th. I had ordered this printer back on November 30th. I finally emailed to complain that I had not recieved it. [...] sent me an email telling me the item had been delivered, see below tracking number from fed ex. The tracking number showed the product had been damaged in transit before it ever made it to me and was shipped back to [...] and received and signed for by them back on December 9th. It took me emailing them 8 days later to bring to their attention that they received the product back.

I was then sent an email apologizing saying the product was no longer available and once they confirmed with Fed Ex that is was in fact damaged in transit, they would refund my money. (this can take 48 hours)!

The appropriate service recovery for them would have been to already have refunded my money or already sent me a new product. Now I am waiting until they confirm with Fed ex the damage. That’s something they should have already known/confirmed. Perhaps at the product might have been available if they bothered to look at their own tracking numbers to realized they had recieved the product back 8 days ago!!!

Bottom line… stick to items that ship directly from amazon!

SNOW LEOPARD installation
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I just got this Canon MP560 printer to replace a tired old Epson. Doing my research, I did notice as you will, the people who had problems installing drivers and software for Mac 10.6. The issue is that Canon has yet to get its act completely together and put out a slick and smooth installation disk for Mac (specifically 10.6, I think previous OS versions will work fine from the disk) as it has for Windows. I also have a HP Laptop (well my wife does) and it installed on there with VISTA without a catch. Couldn’t have been simpler. Connecting to my WIFI APPLE AIRPORT EXTREME network was very intuitive from the Printer’s Panel (the manual was a bit confusing, I just looked at the panel and followed the menus, was a snap). I had read Otto Olah’s review and his experience and thought I would have it easy. He notes in his review to just go to Canon and download the 3 drivers he lists. I did that and I could print but couldn’t scan from the computer. After a long wait on the phone to Canon, the tech told me that I only needed to download and install two items.

-MP560 Series MP Driver Ver. 1.0 for Network (this is located on canon’s page under drivers when you get the the MP560 page for OS X)

-MP Navigator 3.0.4 (Mac OS X through 10.6) this is located in the software section of that page)

Once I downloaded those two items and installed them and went through the set up “wizard” I was pretty much set to go.

A couple other issues I had was trying to locate how to duplex print and how to get to the maintenance utilities. It is very intuitive for Windows Vista and you have to poke around to stumble onto them the first time for Mac. For duplex (two sided printing) in the print window pull down the LAYOUT menu and you’ll find it there. For the print utilities you need to go to System Prefs>Print and Fax>Open Print Queue> Utilities and make sure your “network” printer is located and chose and not a USB unless you have it set up on USB of course. That should be enough to get you all going and save you the few hours it cost me today. It was frustrating but it isn’t MAC’s fault. It is Canon’s fault. Hopefully they will remedy it soon. Hopefully these directions will make it easy for you.

The Printer is beautifully designed, stunning and coordinates with my IMAC beautifully. It really works nice once all set up. It is very quiet and even has a quiet mode if you think it is too noisy, something I haven’t done yet. It is so much quieter than the old Epson 820. The small screen and printer panel are very easy to use and intuitive. There is a bit of a lag before it starts to print as some have noticed but not objectionable to me. The duplex printing is so cool. I like the separate ink tanks. I am hoping that will save $$$ ultimately. It is also nice and “compact” for an all-in-one, something I was looking for to fit on my desk. There was a lot to unpacking the printer, can’t really complain about the packing, it got here safe. Installing the “print head” was something I had never done before but you’ll never have to do it again, I don’t think. The inks go in very easily and I like how they “light” up when properly installed. SO FAR, and I’m admittedly only hours into this, I am very happy with the printer in spite of a bit of trouble setting it up for Mac. I am looking forward to a long happy relationship with it. If it turns out to be something else, I’ll modify or add another review. But Mac Users, you’ll have to suck it up a bit to get it going at first.

Great Printer
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This is the best photo printer I have used to date. It has great picture quality, scaner works great, WIFI, and I really like that it will print duplex it helps to save paper. It prints 4×6 photos in about 30 seconds and an 8×10 in a little over a minute. I highly recomend purchasing Canon’s Pro Platnum photo paper if you think you will print photos it makes the best looking photos I’ve seen. This is a great printer for the money. Seting up the printer on WIFI was a little complicated but once it is set up it works great.

Costantl Paper Jams! Wish I’d Never Bought This Printer!
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I have now had this printer for a full year, and I can safely say that is the worst printer I have ever owned. The main problem? It jams, constantly. It will print one page, then jam. So you have to take out the paper tray and re-arrange the paper, then put it back in and let one more page print. This process goes on again and again–print, jam, print, jam, print, jam. The printer cartridges are expensive too, because the machine requires four or five separate cartridges, which cost a total of $70. I used to own an HP printer, but it was non-wireless. Now that the wireless HPs are comparable in price to this one, I think I’ll get rid of this machine and buy something more reliable. The set-up was easy, as all of the reviews said it was, and once the machine finally prints your document (it is veeeeeery slow), the print-out looks good. I will say that much for it.

I have only had it about a month, but I love it. Have been through a lot of not-so-hot printers, but this one is the best yet….first class! One of the neatest things is that it sits in a very small area since the paper is loaded from an underneath cartridge. Also, you can scan and save right to PDF file which is great.

I’m a little nervous about $$$ for printer refill, but we’ll see

Great printer for the money! In fact, the price of the printer dropped $15 since I purchased it just a few weeks ago which makes it an even better deal now. The ink replacement cartridges are quite expensive. Photo print quality is excellent. I haven’t been able to link it to my network wirelessly yet despite several attempts.
